Nabakooza Maria, a 62-year-old grandmother from Kabawanga village, was living in a dilapidated house with her three grandchildren. Their home was prone to collapse, exposing them to risks. But Kitovu Mobile, with support from the Stephen Lewis Foundation, constructed a new two-room house for the family in 2021.
The family’s gratitude was palpable during the handover ceremony, which even caught the attention of an American philanthropist, “Eriyonta,” who provided Nabakooza with two new mattresses. Today, Maria is working hard to save and improve her future. She’s planning to build a pig sty and benefit from the group’s breeding center. Maria’s story is one of hope and resilience. “Long Live Kitovu Mobile, Long Live Stephen Lewis Foundation,” she says, expressing her heartfelt gratitude for the life-changing intervention that has brought her family joy, hope, and a chance to thrive.
